A New York Times bestseller For millions of people, travel by air is a confounding, uncomfortable, and even fearful experience. Patrick Smith, airline pilot and author of the web's popular Ask the Pilot feature, separates the fact from fallacy and tells you everything you need to know. Similar to the author, I grew up around planes. My mother was a flight attendant for 37 years and I used to idolize the form of an airliner and could draw most of the American Airlines fleet. 747, DC-10, 727 - I can draw them from memory and to this day I keep model planes at my desk. This book is written in what I would say is about 4 formats - Q&A, Essays, Editorial and Lists/Specifications and I found each format spellbinding.

Legal, Ethical, and Professional Issues in Information Security In civilized life, law floats in a sea of ethics. EARL WARREN, CHIEF JUSTICE OF THE UNITED STATES, 12 NOVEMBER 1962 Henry Magruder made a mistake—he left a CD at the coffee station. Later, when Iris Majwubu was topping off her mug with fresh tea, hoping to wrap up her work on the.

I felt that the author really understood what it is to be a traveler. It's hard to 'dumb down' a lot of what this book is into a short review, but all in all I think Patrick Smith approaches this material with a lot of knowledge of safety, systems, security, maintenance, fears - and manages to condense it in a way that never bores, always entertains, and frequently made me go back and re-read or re-listen.

I really enjoyed the parts of the book focused with dispelling myths - the automated cockpit, how long a flight can last, incidents and accidents, and security. I even enjoyed the way Patrick Smith lightly dips his toes into the realm of conspiracies - while sounding very rational and reasoned. I recommend this book to any frequent traveler, fan of large aircraft, or even someone who is a little bit fearful of flying and doesn't know why. I enjoyed this book more than any other airline industry book I have read. I very strongly recommend it and have given it 5 stars. I lov lov lov to fly.

I loved this book. If you work and live to travel then this is a book you will love. My 87 year old father is leaving for a month long trip to Russia next month. That should give you an idea of how I was brought up.

Travel is in our blood. Travel by airplane. If it goes up in the air, I will climb aboard.

This book answered so many questions I have had in the past. I will not be detoured by terrorist, high air fares, tsa, long lines, luggage fees, carry-on problems, searches, shoe removal, bla bla bla. I will fly naked if necessary.

I don't think airline pilots realize people like me have an admiration and respect for the amazing jobs they perform. I don't think for one millisecond an airplane can fly itself and the pilot just sits there sipping cocoa and napping. I am a Registered Nurse and I know for a fact that these men and women aren't like the rest of us. Their brains think on a different level and that separates them from us. I would trust my life to a pilot anytime and any day.i love when on certain flights you get to listen to the ATC and pilots on take off and landing.

The roll out then take off on a journey to an amazing destination. One of these days I will fly aboard an A380. If I had the money I would pay to sit in the cockpit and watch these amazing people perform their incredible duties. It is very sad that the excitement and wonder of travel have been ruined for so many people. Read this book.Check out his web site.

Thank you for telling us about your experiences and life. I am going to read your book again tonight. Recycled Blog.

I love this sort of tell-all. I enjoy pulling back the covers, listening to an insider disclose the hidden meanings and secrets of things the average person frequently experiences. And Cockpit Confidential delivers, but with a caveat. Almost all of the information in this book was pulled from the author's blog. Beefed up/embellished at times, but nevertheless recycled. As a result, the book has a disjointed feel, as it's an amalgamation of these individual articles.

That's not to say that it's a bad book. But rather that given the opportunity to provide MORE information, it appears that the author (or editors) took the path of least resistance. Interesting read for curious avgeeks.
