I am a little confused by your description of your issue. But I'll have a crack. When you say no grooves and no drums, do you mean that if you click on the Drums and Grooves menus in the sidebar to the left of BFD3's gui, there are no kit pieces listed at all? Same for grooves? This is the Content Locations page. All your locations should be listed here and they should all be activated. If you double click the image of my page you will see what is should look like. Questions: you downloaded the core library it seems - have you then installed it? Once you have downloaded to your mac, you have to run the core library installer to install the data and grooves to your preferred location which should be an external drive (and that drive should be either Firewire or thunderbolt). Once the core library is installed you have to point BFD3 to that location on the Content Locations page.
How have you set up your library? If you look at my page you will see how I have structured all my BFD2, BFD3, and expansion libraries. People somestimes get this wrong and you drums wont show up. In my path, 'Drums' is my external drive which I have installed all my BFD data to. If you have all this right, one more simpe question. After launching BFD3, have you actually loaded up a kit in the Kit page?
The first time you launch BFD3 it will NOT have a kit loaded - but it kinda looks as though it does! Cant remember if the same is true of the grooves palette. If you load up a preset, you will get the kit and a groove palettle loaded.

You are totally right about the first things. The grooves and drums missisng and the content library screen. I am pretty sure I have downloaded and installed the the core library. I put the data on my reg drive not external. I tried scanning the external before started dragging and froze. But I think its on the hard drive. I scanned the drives on the content locations screen blue bar filled up.
I still have no drums or grooves. Also you said external drive should be firewall or thunderbolt what do you mean.

Thank You.A little late with this but firewall (actually that's firewire as firewall is a protection from nasties coming over your internet connection) and Thunderbolt are peripheral connections to the host computer. Firewire comes in two speeds - FW400 and FW800 and if using that connection you'd want FW800. Thunderbolt is a way fast connection which is essentially the speed of the computer's internal bus. Thunderbolt and an ssd (solidstate drive) is the way to go. There is yet a third connection scheme - USB and of that there's three USB1.1, USB2 and USB3. Of those USB3 would be the one and supposedly it's faster than FW800.
You don't say what specific WD Passport drive you have - there are many variations and they are not really recommended for audio work. The reason being they tend to be so-called green drives which vary their drive speed according to load and will go to sleep during periods of inactivity. They also tend to be slow drives (5400 rpm). You want your drive(s) to have none of these faults. If using a spinner you want a minimum of 7200 rpm non-green drive. And never let your computer sleep.
You don't say if you're on Windows or a Mac but Windows machines have settings that put their USB ports to sleep and if that's what you're using then you need to go into Windows Control Panel and disable power down modes on the USB connections. Macs have no such worries. While on the subject of USB some USB2 peripherals have issues with USB3 and that can be solved by using an AC mains powered USB hub and plugging the problem peripherals into the hub and the hub into the computer USB3 port. Yettibrad, YES, YES AND YES!!! FXPANSION SITE IS SO SLOW.

Hello, I just bought BFD3 the other day and I am having problems with the content installer of the BFD3 stand-alone program recognizing all of my installed core library drum files.
I purchased the 'download' version of BFD3 and I proceeded to download everything as outlined on this website. I installed the BFD3 software using the.exe file I downloaded from my purchased products page. I also downloaded the 'core library ticket' file from my purchased products page. After downloading the BFD3 software, I got a shortcut on my desktop for the license manager application. I then started downloading the 'core library installer' via the 'downloads' tab in the license manager using the core library ticket file I downloaded from my account online here. After the 'core library installer' finished downloading, I clicked the 'play' button above the finished downloaded installer at the top right of the license manager screen to begin installation of the actual core library drum files on my computer.
When I finished installing all of the core library files, I opened the stand-alone BFD3 application to complete the authorization process of my software and core library files, but when the content location window popped up, my 'core library files' folder was not automatically located and pulled up in the window. I proceeded to click the 'search folders' button and manual selected my 'core library files' folder through the designated path location on my computer, but the folder's path would not pop up in the content location window still. The location of all of my installed 'core library files' is under Users.My Name.DocumentsFXpansionBFD3BFD3 Core Library. This is the default location that the 'core library installer' had to install all of the files to, so I just used that locatoin. I already tried to remedy this problem by uninstalling everything I installed: The BFD3 application, the core library installer, all of the core library installed files, ect. And re-downloaded and re-installed everything again with a clean slate but the 'Content Locations' window in the BFD3 application still will not recognize the location of all of my core library files.
I have pasted a copy of the log below that I see in the content locations window after I select the BFD3 Core Library folder under the search button. Maybe this will explain what is happening??? The core library files needed to be be cut and pasted (moved) to a different location on my C: drive and then the content locations window of BFD3 was able to locate them. It seems as though, even though the files were located under 'my documents' which is technically on my C: drive under 'usersdocumentsect.'
, they weren't 'actually' on my C: drive so BFD3's content installer couldn't detect them until I cut and pasted the core library files folder into a directory path that was actually under my C: drive. Thanks for your assistance Purtington! The downloader is perhaps the worst thing I've ever used. Today, it's been around 2 hrs and it has yet to complete 'Checking status of files already downloaded'. Which was over 6 hrs yesterday, it's around 70% iirc.
This checking is definitely far slower than Chrome or Firefox included downloaders actually downloading something. Downloading, any internet browsing makes this thing 4 or 5 times slower (wait! 10x slower just now) than if it's the sole thing in focus. I don't know if it has to be the sole thing in focus to take advantage of the speed of the connection with no other internet activity. I have to multitask if I'm going to do internet at this time. This is really ridiculous.
I don't remember this under Snow Leopard or whatever, maybe OSX 10.8.5. Here under Sierra it's really poor.

After reading the marketing hype and then finally buying it, I think the marketing is too hyped (but kudos to the sales guys. I was one in a former life!). Some of the cymbals sound obtrusive. Snares are good as well as the kicks. HOWEVER, I use it almost always over the sounds on the Korg Triton, Roland JV-2080, and some of the other soft synths in my toolbox.
Feature: Lots of cool features like adding room ambience, level and pan adjustments, pitch, changing kit pieces, etc. Ease of Use: Like too much software it seems to be designed by nerds and not by musicians. I use it as a DXi plugin. Quality: As I said, some of the cymbals are 'rough' sounding (although you CAN find kit pieces that sound better than others). Aside from working with cymbals, I like the sounds. Value: For the price I paid at Zzounds ($199), it's way worth the headaches. Manufacturer Support: The web site is efficient.
Otherwise, I don't know. The Wow Factor: BFD has awesome marketing. I bought based on the hype.
I believe the product will improve with the next version. I'm not unhappy with the purchase. Overall: Conceptually, it's an awesome product. In the real world it needs some work. I'm a producer. I don't produce part-time- it's my full-time gig.

It makes sampled drums sound like you were recording a real drummer playing a great kit recorded in a top notch studio. The individual samples are superb. The BFD module that triggers them does a far better job at easily mimicking a real drummer's playing than anything that's out there. This is the drum module I've been dreaming of. Feature: Really, I don't know what other features you could ask for to make realistic sounding drum tracks. All the samples are recorded clean so you can EQ and process them however you like, or not at all.
You can output each of BFD's drums (as well the room, overhead and PZM mikes) to 17 different tracks in your DAW. Or you can just use the BFD module's internal mixer and output to stereo. Or you can start with the stereo and then switch to the 17 output version for later mixdown, when you're ready. The humanizing and quanitzation features are outstanding.
Quality: It shipped with a buggy installer, but otherwise I haven't had bug problems. I'm cutting down the quality points because the system requirements are quite heavy. You need to have a ton of RAM to run this thing most smoothly.
Otherwise, samples have to stream off your hard drive. My experience is that I need to make most of the samples for the kit I've got loaded play once to warm it up. After that, it runs smooth and the system load isn't too bad. But until then, you get all kinds of audio problem and system useage spikes. This is really annoying, and I'm sure it convinces some people that BFD is unusable if they only try it for a few minutes.
With another gig of RAM, I don't think I'd have much of this problem anymore. Even without the extra RAM, it's just a hassle and not something that interferes with useability. (EXCEPT, if you need something for live performance, you'd have to stick with just the one kit that you 'warmed up.' ) Value: They could have charged twice the price and I've had still been glad I bought this. Manufacturer Support: Quick responses to questions in the support forum. FXpansion supports their products well. The Wow Factor: Drool worthy.
Overall: If you want realistic drum kit tracks, forget about Drum Kit From Hell, Perrfect Drums and all the rest of the multisampled collections. You don't need that.
