SSMS Tools Pack is a Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) add-in that dramatically increases your productivity with well-integrated, easy to use features. For those not in the know, there is an incredibly useful set of utilities known as SSMS Tools Pack ( The best part about SSMSTP is that it's FREE. Or it has been to date. It's recently been announced that for SSMS 2012 won't be free any longer, and for those of us routinely working on say 3 different machines, it won't be cheap. I'm working for an organisation that has basically run out of money, so if I want to keep using it I'll be ponying up upwards of €75 myself.

Which I will probably end up doing because the product is so useful and the developer deserves reward for effort. Before I do that though, I want to see what the alternatives are. I use the 'SQL Snippets' most.
It takes user-configurable keyboard shortcuts and turns them in SQL formatted to your personal taste. Are there any other utilities out there that do a similar job? What are other people planning to do? I develop add-in, which has:.
snippets. 'go to definition'. preferred connections. executed statements history. formatting. recent tabs.
editor history. search in results grid. results grid scripting ( for example as excel document). and some more good tools. Check it out and let me know if you miss anything.
Add-in is free (after 30 days of trial you only have to get free activation key). There is also 'Pro' version available for 50 EUR, which is identical to Free one. It is just a possibility to say 'Thanks' to developer;).
Thanks for the post Andrei. Out of curiosity, where you say '.available for 50 EUR.' , what guides your decision to arrive at 50 EUR? I often wonder whether developers would get better revenue and better market penetration by settling on a much lower figure thereby generating more sign-ups.

If you got ten times the number of sign-ups by setting the number at 5 EUR surely the extra market share would be a huge collateral gain. (I realise in this case it's like a donation, just curious as to how the number 50 came about). The problem is that potential market for SSMS add-ins can not be compared with market for AngryBirds. If add-in is targeted for commercial success it must cost at least some 70-150$ to cover development costs. Setting the price of 5$ will not help the developer and will be contraproductive for tool popularity because, I think, some 20-40% of users will not even want to pay that much.
That is why my decision: free + possibility to thay 'thanks' buying the 'Pro' version. 'Pro' means not that the addin will get more functions, it means that user who paid that much is 'Pro' himself, because he values his time and understands the development effort, needed to produce the tool. It is also a great message for me as developer: if someone is paying money for a tool, that can be used for free, that means that the SSMSBoost is on the right way.
