Speaking at a reporter breakfast, General Lichte said, 'For every year or two that we delay up front that means that we fly these things past 2040 and that means the 135 is over 80 years old,' adding, 'It's unconscionable that we're asking people to fly in combat in 50-year-old airframes.' 17 Well from the report Abbas Bhai has posted it seems this aircraft will need regular upgrades. As far I think with more emphasis on fuel efficiency these a/c will be replaced at some point in time with a/c with composite material airframes. This has happened with a few other things, once a new better technology is available it has to be replaced.
How are they going to manage with air frames. Are they also replacing them? The Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) photo also appears in Pakistan Air Force (PAF) year 2009 wall calendar but it's modified/edited photo. In recent years, I've seen modified/edited photos in some of PAF calendars. Probably APP received this photo from PAF. Apparently, following photo of an Indian Air Force (IAF) Ilyushin Il-78MKI aerial refueling tanker (serial# RK-3451) has been modified/edited and used in PAF 2009 calendar and APP photo report.

IAF Ilyushin Il-78MKI to see large photo For PAF calendar actual photo of PAF Ilysuhin Il-78 Midas tanker should have been used or artist's impression of the aircraft, like for example Pakistan's leading aviation artist Syed Masood Akhtar Hussaini could have been asked to make painting of PAF Il-78 Midas for using it in PAF calendar. Similarly, real photo of PAF Ilyushin Il-78 Midas or artist's impression/painting should have been provided to news agencies like APP. Abbas Ali wrote:^ Pakistan did not buy C-130s from Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). Six ex-RAAF C-130s refurbished & upgraded with newer avionics at Lockheed Martin facilities in USA were supplied by United States to Pakistan.

Delivery of these six aircraft to Pakistan began in late October 2005 and the first aircraft arrived in Pakistan with relief goods for October 8, 2005 Pakistan earthquake survivors. All these six C-130Es were built in early 1960s for the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and RAAF had returned them to Lockheed Martin when they bought latest model of C-130 few years ago. The ex-RAAF C-130s remained in storage in USA for some years before they were upgraded & prepared for delivery to Pakistan. Abbas Thanks for clarification on the purchase status of ex-RAAF C130s that were bought by PAF few years ago. Looks like no one have any current pictures of IL-78 that was delivered to PAF couple days ago as yet. Hopefully they will emerge soon.
